My interest in photography stems from a very young age, developing film (Ilford FP4 Black & White) using my own makeshift darkroom. In 2004 I purchased my first digital camera, a Nikon D70 which I still have having converted it to shoot Infrared.
It was a love of travel that rekindled my childhood interest, coupled with an increasing desire to produce better travel photographs. This led me to attend Steve Davey’s Travel photography tour ‘Impressions of Ladakh’ in 2010, spending some 16 days in the northernmost regions of India, providing a rare opportunity to witness & capture traditional Buddhist festivals. This tour was the stimulus for progressing my interest in landscape photography.
It was on this tour that I met my partner, and in 2019 we made the easy decision to relocate our young family to a quiet rural village on the North Devon coast. I now focus on photographing my local area, spending more time behind the camera and less behind the wheel. With close proximity to this beautiful coastline and local knowledge I am able to react quickly to changing weather, and in so doing build up my portfolio and experience by repeatedly revisiting locations.
I’m extremely fortunate in that Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe are within easy reach of home, with the rugged coast of Hartland Quay, Black Church Rock and Sandymouth slightly further afield.
For me, the joy of landscape photography is the outdoor experience, getting out and witnessing those unpredictable moments of nature and recording fleeting moments of light. A good day out means coming home tired, cold and wet with the knowledge I’ve captured something special.
I hope that you enjoy my photographs as much as I have enjoyed taking them
